What causes hair to go white with age?

Hair color changes to grey, then white as we age...Why? and is there a way to prevent this from happening?

What causes hair to go white with age?

The keratin (color producing protein) in your body stops producing. You can't prevent it, it's just something that happens. It could be age or genetics. Some women have been completely grey at 19. The only thing you can do when it happens is start coloring your hair.

The older we get the more we mature. To prevent it, dye your hair color. I'm 29 and starting to get white hair...so when my hair start turning white or grey, I'm gonna dye my head! :P

What causes hair to go white with age?

It has to do with the production of pigment. Over the years, the cells make less and less pigment until hair has very little. You can read about it here

What causes hair to go white with age?

in the root of the hair follicle pigment is produced by cells called melanocytes. When we get older these cells die off and quit producing pigment in the hair and it turns white
