If someone 1/2 Asian 1/2 White has dark hair (roots) can it "naturally" turn lighter as it

My friend is 1/2 Asian and 1/2 White - her roots are dark and she says that she doesn't put any color or ANYTHING on her hair - it just "naturally" turns an orangish light brown as it grows out. I say no way - does anyone know if this is possible or where I can find out that there is no way it can happen? Thanks!

It depends how dark the roots really are. Brown caucasian hair might lighten that much naturally if she spends a lot of time in the sun. Black Asian hair never without chemical help. Since she's half white she could have brown roots, you have to look more closely.

Being racially mixed doesn't make a person's hair darker. The hair comes from one side or the other, not both.

Well I know that she'll have gray hair when she's 80...so i guess a natural lightening of the hair is possible...

I'm half Asian, half White (Irish) and my hair turns a dark, vibrant red from brown when its exposed to prolonged sunlight (i.e. after surfing or something). I don't know if it does that naturally, but it can.

I know a girl who naturally has dark roots but her hair is blondish as it grows out. I think sun probably has a lot to do with it (I suppose certain styling products might too).

her hair can be burnt, not from hair dye but from staying in the sun too long. but from black to orange...that isn't realistic...

The sun(heat) can lighten her hair. I am 1/2 Asian and Panamanian. My hair is natural dark black/brown. When I am out doors a lot my hair gets lighter. The sun damages your hair. Especially chlorine from the swimming pools.

Not usually. Usually the childs hair will be lighter as a child and get darker as they get older. hmmmm. They can always color it later.

I'm 1/4 Asian and 3/4 everything else, but my hair is exactly like that. My own hair is almost blond at the tips, and almost black at the roots. Hair does bleach in the sun, just like it does clothing and anything else that spends a lot of time outside. Although I have put red highlights in my hair and dyed it a uniform color a few years ago, it still ends up as dark roots and light tips. Also, I've noticed that if someone has lighter-than-black hair and shaves it off, it sometimes grows back darker, it's possible that rather than becoming lighter, your friend's hair is actually getting darker. Sun, genetics, lighter-to-darker... Take your pick.

And then there's the amount of certain proteins that dictate the color of one's hair as it grows. Eumelanin is responsible for brown/black pigments, and phaeomelanin is responsibe for blond/light brown/red pigments.
